How we keep our children safe

We care about the safety of every member of our school family, and safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do at Barford Primary.

The aim of our work on safeguarding is ensure every child who is a registered pupil at our school is safe, and you can find our more details about how we work to achieve this through our Safeguarding Policy.

 Our commitment to safeguarding  means we will always work to:

  • Protect children and young people at our school from maltreatment;
  • Prevent impairment of our children’s and young people’s health or development;
  • Ensure that children and young people at our school grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care;
  • Undertake that role so as to enable children and young people at our school to have the best outcomes.

If you see or hear anything which makes you concerned for the health or safety of a child at the school, please contact our Senior Designated Professional for Safeguarding, Miss Carla Stedman (the Headteacher) through the school office. If she is not available, speak to the school office who will put you in contact with one of our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads.
If your safeguarding concern involves the Headteacher, please use the email address in our policy to contact the Chair of Governors, Craig Pym.

Remember, we all need to be vigilant to protect the welfare of children.  If in doubt, ask yourself “What if I am right?”

Operation Encompass

At Barford Primary School we are working in partnership with Norfolk Constabulary and Norfolk Children’s Services to identify and provide appropriate support to pupils who have experienced domestic violence in their household; this scheme is called Operation Encompass.  In order to achieve this, Norfolk Multi-agency Safeguarding Hub will share police information of all domestic incidents where one of our pupils has been present with the Designated Safeguarding Lead(s). On receipt of any information, the Designated Safeguarding Lead will decide on the appropriate support the child requires, this could be silent or overt. All information sharing and resulting actions will be undertaken in accordance with the ‘Norfolk Joint Agency Protocol for Domestic Abuse – Notifications to Schools’. We will record this information and store this information in accordance with the record keeping procedures outlined in our school safeguarding policy.
